Dr. Tiago Dantas is an Assistant/Auxiliary Investigator at the i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde), supported by a six-year contract from FCT (CEECIND/00771/2017). He has published 21 manuscripts in peer-reviewed, internationally renowned journals (including Nature Communications, Developmental Cell, Journal of Cell Biology and Cell Reports), 8 of which as a first or co-first author, and 7 as the corresponding or co-corresponding author. His publications have a total of 648 citations and an h-index of 14. Dr Dantas started his scientific career as an Erasmus student investigating centrosome biology in the lab of Prof Ciaran Morrison at the National University of Ireland in Galway. He was then awarded a fellowship from FCT to continue his work in Prof Morrison's lab as a PhD student in 2008. His dissertation focused on the crosstalk between centrosomal proteins and the DNA damage response. After receiving his PhD in Ireland in 2012, Dr Dantas joined the lab of Prof Richard Vallee at Columbia University in New York, USA, where he was funded by the AHA/ASA to study the importance of ciliogenesis and molecular motors in neural stem cell proliferation. In addition, he studied the involvement of Dyneins in human disease. In 2018, Dr Dantas joined IBMC/i3S to start his own line of research funded by FCT. His lab is interested in: A) uncovering cilia-dependent mechanisms that regulate cell cycle progression and proliferation of neural stem cells during brain development; and B) dissecting the underlying causes for the severe cases of Dynein-2-associated skeletal ciliopathies. Throughout his career, Dr Dantas has supervised many students (6 PhD plus 7 Master students, see extended CV for details) and postdocs (J.B. Gama at i3S; also mentored junior Post-docs in the Vallee lab). He was Examiner in the defense of 6 Master and 2 PhD theses. He is also an editorial board member of the Communications Biology (Nat. group) and Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience journals. He edited and organized the "Centrosomes and Cilia" special collection at Communications Biology (Nature PG). 2021: https://www.nature. com/collections/iadheaabic.
