Tânia Tavares graduated in Biochemistry by Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP-Portugal) in 2002. During her
final graduation thesis, she went to the College of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University (ESB-UCP). During
four years she worked at ESB-UCP as an Invited Assistant Professor and Researcher Trainee in the Dairy Products area. In ESB-UCP,
she started her PhD in Food Science and Engineering (2006) and finished in Technological and Engineering Sciences with a specialisation
in Biochemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology, New University of Lisbon (ITQB-UNL -
Portugal) in 2011. In the same year (until 2018), she started a post-doctor position at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University
of Porto (FFUP - Portugal) and Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP-Portugal). To support her research activity,
she was awarded FCT fellowships (PhD SFRH/BD/31604/2006), and Postdoc (PTDC/AGR-ALI/117658/2010, and SFRH/BPD/89360/2012).
From 2018 until 2021, she obtained a Junior Researcher contract, and since 2021 an Assistant Researcher contract with FEUP.
She has been an Invited Assistant Professor since 2003 (with few breaks) at ESB-UCP and FEUP. She has teaching experience
in areas such as microbiology, biochemistry and organic chemistry for different master courses and completed the supervision
of 5 master's students and 6 research fellows. During her career, her major research interests have focused in Biotechnology
and Biochemistry, she has worked in multidisciplinary topics such as Food Industry by-Products, Functional Foods and Ingredients,
Protein Hydrolysis, Ingredients Extraction, Bioactivities, Added Value Products, and New Biotechnological Applications. Tânia
Tavares published 33 papers (9 as first author, 2 as single author) in international peer-reviewed journals (mainly in Food
Science; 17 articles were published within 25% of the highest impact factor-Q1- in their area of knowledge) with an impact
factor of 123 and with 1195 citations (h-index=14). 15 of 33 papers were achieved after obtaining the PhD degree. Two articles
were published independently from his PhD supervisor. Tânia Tavares published 10 book chapters (2 as single author), one national
and one international patent. Her research work was discussed in 19 international and 11 national meetings (she gave 9 oral
and 19 poster presentations). She is the Principal investigator of 1 scientific project and a team member in 14 research projects,
worked with 56 co-workers, and was involved in the writing of 20 project applications. She is a Review Editor for Frontiers
in Nutrition (Food Chemistry) and is frequently invited to peer-review in more than 15 Q1 journals in Food Science & Technology.
She was also invited to be a member of the evaluation committee of the Pronaci Program and applications under the PRR to finance
Specialised Technological Centres. Tânia Tavares received two Awards of Excellence by IBESA - Institute of Beverages and Health
from UNICER (brewing industry), in consecutive years, 2006 and 2007, and one Honorable Mention in 2008 by the same institution.
Concerning established international collaborations, she worked in the Institute of Industrial Fermentations from the Spanish
National Research Council (Madrid) for almost a year at the pluridisciplinary Centre for Chemical, Biological, and Agricultural
Research (CPQBA) of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) (Brazil) during 6 months; at Faculty of Natural Sciences of University
of Buenos Aires (UBA) (Argentina) during 3 months; and at Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of Faculty of Pharmacy,
University of Salamanca (Spain), during 3 months. She also contacted and established collaborations with researchers in Portugal
(CIIMAR, I3S, ITQB-UNL, UCIBIO-UNL, and REQUIMTE), resulting in 13 papers and 10 presentations in international conferences.
Tânia Tavares had two maternity leave, in December 2013 and February 2018.
