Curriculum Vitae
Nicola Tarque
I am a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and Engineering Seismology by the University of Pavia (Italy, 2008-2011). In 2012,
I got a short grant to participate in a post-doctoral research at the same university and with collaboration of the University
Gabriele d’Annunzio. In 2013, I participated also as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Bologna in a joint project
with the University of Gabriele d’Annunzio. Currently, I work at the Engineering Department of the Pontificia Universidad
Católica del Perú (PUCP) as a full-time professor and researcher, and I belong to the research group GERDIS-PUCP, where the
main objective is the risk assessment and management of vulnerable societies and dwellings (https://investigacion.pucp.edu.pe/grupos/gerdis/acerca-del-grupo/).
During my Ph.D. at the University of Pavia, I was pionereed numerical modeling of earthen dwellings, previously experimentally
tested in Peru. The scientific contribution was the calibration of numerical constitutive laws of earthen materials to be
used in the seismic assessment of adobe structures within the finite element method, contributing in this way to the state-of-the-art
of the vulnerability assessment of vernacular and historical earthen constructions. During my Postdoctoral Fellowship, at
the University of Bologna and Gabriele d’Annunzio, I studied the behavior of stone walls with an irregular pattern, ending
with a methodology for computing its lateral capacity. The results were published in peer-review journals and international
conferences.
Along my career, I has been involved in projects related to reinforced and unreinforced masonry (earthen material, stone,
fired clay brick) and I was in charge of pseudo static in-plane cyclic tests of masonry walls and dynamic test of full and
half-scale adobe houses (with and without strengthening), this last funded by local governmental institutions and developed
by a group of researchers from the PUCP. My main work field concerns the non-linear dynamic analysis of structures (earthen,
masonry), finite element modelling, seismic design of masonry and reinforced concrete structures, seismic vulnerability, seismic
hazard, seismic risk assessment and amplification of ground motions.
