I graduated from University of Castilla-La Mancha (Toledo, Spain) in Environmental Sciences in 2005. During the period 2006-2007, I was working as hired researcher at the Department of Evolutionary Ecology of the National Museum of Natural Sciences - MNCN (CSIC). In 2008, I got a FPI doctoral studentship to conduct my PhD (2012) at University of Castilla-La Mancha focused on the reproductive biology of the blue tit in Mediterranean environments. My thesis resulted in seven chapters and all them were published in top-tier (Q1) journals. During this stage, I also did several short-stays at the National Research Institute on Game Biology - IREC wherein I acquired lab skills (genotyping using microsatellite markers) that were applied in a series of companion papers about extra-pair mating behaviour in songbirds. In 2013 I was supported by a grant for young researchers of the British Ornithologists’ Union and, afterwards (2014-2015), I moved to University of Zurich - UZH (Switzerland), one of the most outstanding academic institutions of Europe, where I worked as postdoc in collaboration with Dr. Erik Postma. During my stay in Zurich, I was involved in a project on temporal dynamics of genetic diversity and genetic structuring in a long-term monitored population of snow voles located in the Swiss Alps. Subsequently, I spent 3 years at the Department of Integrative Ecology of the Doñana Biological Station - EBD (CSIC) funded by the ‘Juan de la Cierva’ program (JdC-formación and JdC-incorporación fellowships) wherein I started to develop my current research lines using cutting-edge phylogenetic comparative methods. Specifically, my ongoing work aims to unravel the relative contribution of selection, biogeographic and phylogenetic processes in generating observed patterns of variation in diversity. In the framework of this ongoing research line, in 2018 I visited the lab of Prof. Wilfried Thuiller, one of the three most highly cited ecologists, at the Laboratoire d’Ecologie Alpine - LECA (University Grenoble Alpes, France), a worldwide leading department in global change biology and community ecology, funded by the prestigious program ‘Make Our Planet Great Again’, an initiative launched by the XXVth President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron to recruit foreign scientists with a promising research trajectory. Since January 2019, I work again at the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies of the University of Zurich wherein I lead my own project about the evolution of life-history traits in endotherms. Throughout my career, I have published 47 articles (~5 per year) in SCI journals (including papers in J. Anim Ecol., Proc. R. Soc. London B, Mol. Ecol., J. Evol. Biol. (x7), Behav. Ecol. (x3), Oikos, Oecologia), in which I have played a leading role; I am first or corresponding author in ~80% of my publications (in the remaining, the second one). Despite most of my publications are recent contributions, they have already accumulated ~800 citations (h-index = 17; i10 = 26). I have been Principal Investigator in 4 international research projects (Switzerland; France; UK) and I have also participated in 6 Spanish R&D projects, which indicates I have experience raising funds and managing research projects. I have reviewed manuscripts for over 30 different scientific journals including Ecology, Mol. Ecol., Funct. Ecol., J. Anim. Ecol., Proc. R. Soc. Lond. B, and Heredity among others. Since 2019, I am member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Biogeography. I also have reviewed projects for some funding agencies (Agence National de la Recherche, France; Czech Science Foundation, Czech Republic). Results of my research have been disseminated in several congresses (12 oral communications and 4 poster communications) and popular science magazines. I have mentored 4 BSc and one MSc student and I have been member of 2 PhD committees. I maintain collaborations with researchers from Australia, France, and Sweden.
