João D. G. Correia graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, Portugal (1991). He pursued his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry with Prof. W. A. Herrmann at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, studying rhenium oxides as oxidation catalysts (1997). In the next year, he moved to the former Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN), Sacavém, Portugal, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Isabel Santos. Between 2000 and 2006 he worked as Invited Assistant Researcher and, since 2006, was appointed Principal Researcher in the same group. In January 2021 Dr. Correia was awarded the title of Agregado in Chemistry, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, and since January 2024 he was appointed Coordinator Researcher. He leads the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Group of Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Nucleares (C2TN) -IST. Since January 2022 Dr. Correia was appointed Deputy-Director of the "Laboratory of Accelerators and Radiation Technologies", Radioesterilization Unit. Author or co-author of more than 120 scientific publications indexed in Clarivate Analytics Web of Science in refereed international journals, about 90 communications at conferences and co-inventor on 5 international patents. His H-index (SCOPUS and Clarivate Analytics Web of Science) is 31. Co-editor of 2 special thematic issues of international journals and is regular reviewer for various scientific journals. He has supervised several MSc (15) and PhD (6) theses and is currently supervising 6 PhD and 3 MSc students. He is Principal Investigator (PI) or team member (TM) of various research projects funded by national institutions (e.g. PI: "A molecular and nano approach to target the RANK-TRAF6 interface for bone metastases treatment" FCT-funded project PTDC/QUI-OUT/3854/2021 - 2022-2025. TM: "Development of potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies fragments for COVID-19 derived from domestic cats naturally infected with SARS-CoV-2" FCT-funded project PTDC/CVT-CVT/0149/2021 - 2022 - 2025) and by the European Commission (PRISMAP-European medical radionuclide programme on the production of high purity radionuclides by mass separation - Grant agreement ID: 101008571 - 2021-2025). He has been involved in six european COST Actions (2 still ongoing). He is also quality expert of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Dr. Correia was as a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Faculty of Chemistry and Catalysis Research Center, Molecular Catalysis, under the framework of an August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professorships in 2017 2022, TUM, Munich, Germany. The current research interests include the synthesis and biological evaluation of target (e.g. enzymes, G-protein coupled receptors or amino acid transporters)-specific radiolabeled biologically active peptides, antibodies and substrate/enzyme inhibitors for nuclear molecular imaging and/or systemic radiotherapy. Another relevant area of research comprises also the study of targeted metal-based agents for cancer Theranostics. The scientific activity of João D. G. Correia is aligned with the world strategy of design and preclinical evaluation of innovative target-specific radioactive tools for Molecular Imaging and/or Targeted Systemic Radiotherapy directed to cancer. It intends to contribute to Goal 3, Quality Health - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, of the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development, specifically to reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases via prevention and treatment, and to promote mental health and well-being.
