I have been a research assistant at INESC TEC since 2022. My research focuses on ransomware analysis and study the development of ransomware detection tools, especially those that rely on machine learning. During this time, I have performed behavioural analyses of ransomware on Linux and Android Operating Systems and tested different machine learning detection solutions. From 2019 to 2022, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Informatics Engineering at the University of Minho. I then pursued a master’s degree from 2022 to 2025, developing my thesis entitled “Towards Optimized Development and Testing of Ransowmare Detection Solutions”. My research analysed the development process of ransomware detection solutions and introduced a prototype aimed at optimizing the reproducibility of existing and new ML-based detection solutions. From May to June 2024, I joined the DistriNet research unit from the KU Leuven University in Belgium, as a visiting scholar. During this time, I collaborated closely with researchers Vera Rimmer and Lieven Desmet on topics related to Machine Learning explainability in the malware detection field. This experience provided me with valuable insights that significantly contributed to my master’s thesis development. In March 2025, I started a PhD in Informatics, enrolling in the PDINF program. My research targets the development of ransomware-resilient storage solutions capable of not only detecting attacks but also recovering from those attacks with a zero-data-loss guarantee.
