Marco Filipe Cerqueira Araújo, completed his PhD in Chemistry (2016) as a Marie Curie Fellow (SMARTNET ITN, ESR1) at Universitat Jaume I, working on the synthesis of Supramolecular metallogels for application in catalysis. He also holds a MSc in Chemistry (2010) and a BSc in Technologic Chemistry - Chemical analysis branch (2008) from Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências. Marco Araújo published 25 articles in peer-review journals (12 as 1st author, 4 as corresponding) and 3 book chapters, supervised 2 BSc and 1 MSc dissertations, as well as 1 BSc and 1 MSc research fellow (BiOsseoSpine project), co-supervised 8 MSc dissertations, mentored 6 PhD students. He authored/co-authored 87 communications in national/international conferences, 6 of them awarded (¿ 2.75K). His scientific independence was demonstrated by recently attracting competitive funding (€ 424K) in a national call from Agência Nacional de Inovação (ANI) to perform the project BiOsseoSpine, in partnership with a Bioceramed and 2 research institutes. Marco was the main organizer of 2 events, one in the framework of IBEROS project (VI Jornadas Cientificas IBEROS) and the other in SMARTNET Initial Training Network (SMARTNET Workshop on Characterization of Gels). While performing his BSc and MSc thesis in the isolation and characterization of melanin from marine origin, he also worked as a Research Trainee at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear performing the synthesis of a 68Gallium radiocompound for PET imaging. As a Research Fellow he worked at Instituto Tecnologia Química e Biológica on the synthesis of metallopeptide catalysts for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reaction (2009-2010) and at Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa on the functionalization of Polyurea dendrimers for drug delivery and biosensoring (2011-2012). Marco Araújo acquired extensive experience in Industrial research by working as a Marie Curie fellow (GlaCERCo ITN, ESR15) in the research unit of the multinational company Colorobbia S.p.A (Ce.Ri.Col, Italy), on the the design, development and characterization of bioactive glass based coatings for biomedical devices, and later as a collaborator in Colorobbia Spain s.A. performing the Synthesis and encapsulation of inorganic pigments. Marco Araújo was an Invited Scientist (2016-2020) at Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) in the framework of the international IBEROS network, working on the chemical design and development of polymeric hydrogel-based scaffolds for tissue engineering (bone regeneration, chronic wound healing) and their in-vitro testing. He extended his skills through collaborations in the fields of nanomedicine, additive manufacturing and immunology. Marco Araújo was hired by Bioceramed (April 2021), before being contracted by i3S as Junior Researcher in the framework of the project BiOsseoSpine to develop an organic-inorganic membrane for spine regeneration. Since July 2023 he integrates the R&D department of Bioceramed. Marco Araújo participated in 15 projects in the fields of tissue engineering, catalysis, drug delivery, biosensing, demonstrating solid skills in: 1) Medical Biotechnology - Biomaterials 2) Chemical Sciences, including organic, inorganic and polymer chemistry, 3) Engineering and Technology, including nanotechnology, ceramics and composites. His research interests focus: a) the synthesis/functionalization and characterization of synthetic (Polyurea dendrimers, PLGA, PEG) and natural-derived (Alginate, pectin, chitosan, konjac glucomannan, chondroitin sulfates, exopolysaccharides, Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, silk fibroin) polymers and proteins (ovalbumin, zein) for tissue engineering, nanomedicine, biosensing, drug delivery; b) the development of ceramic materials and hybrid organic-inorganic composites for bone regeneration; c) materials processing (bioprinting, robocasting, electrospinning); d) the synthesis of supramolecular gels for catalysis/tissue engineering
