I am Joana Ferrolho Gibson, a Veterinary Doctor with over a decade of clinical practice in Companion Animal Medicine in Lisbon, and a Lecturer-Researcher at the Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama (EUVG) in Coimbra. I hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, funded by the FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology). My academic and professional journey has been marked by a strong dedication to clinical practice, research, and innovation. I graduated in Veterinary Medicine from EUVG in 2010 and obtained a Master of Science by Research in Animal Genomics from the University of Edinburgh as a scholarship recipient under the PEOPLE Marie Curie Actions programme. Currently, I am studying Medical Sciences at Nova Medical School in Lisbon, expanding my knowledge and contribution to interdisciplinary health fields. Throughout my career, I have participated in various national and international research projects, with a particular focus on Vector-Borne Diseases, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and vaccine development. My areas of interest include the interactions between parasites, hosts, and the environment within the context of Public Health and One Health, as well as the impact of parasitic diseases on animal and human health. I am the author and co-author of several scientific publications in renowned international journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in my areas of expertise. Additionally, I have presented my work at national and international conferences and scientific meetings. Currently, alongside my clinical practice, I am part of the Teaching and Research team at EUVG, where I continue to develop innovative projects and collaborate with other researchers and institutions. I am also dedicated to mentoring students and disseminating knowledge through participation in scientific events and the publication of articles.
