Since 1996, Dr. Ramirez-Maestre has been teaching at Malaga University for the undergraduate course in Psychology and has been continuously involved as a researcher in the doctoral and postgraduate research schemes in the Faculty of Psychology, always in the field of the psychological aspects of chronic pain. From 2015, she has been supervising master’s thesis. All of them have obtained an outstanding qualification. Regarding the research work, it is worth mentioning the consistency and continuity of the line of study, focused on the psychological aspects of chronic pain, since 1997. During that year, her research team was awarded a grant by Malaga University for pre-competitive projects, and another one by the General Directorate of Higher Education and Scientific Research, at the Ministry of Education and Culture (PM97-0152), for the project "Styles and coping strategies and vulnerability to pain: Individual differences and implications for psychological intervention". Since October 1999, she is part of the research team HUM-566, that has been awarded every year since then annual subventions by the Junta de Andalucía (regional government) under the Plan Andaluz de Investigación (Andalusian Research Scheme). In 2002 the Ministry of Science and Technology awarded her research team a grant to develop the project "Psychological assessment of chronic pain syndromes and their usefulness in establishing the prognosis of therapeutic interventions" (BSO02-02939). In October 2007, the project "Psychosocial variables involved in the chronification of pain", developed under her leadership as principal researcher, was funded as a research project of excellency by the Junta de Andalucía, (P07-SEJ3067) and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (PSI2008-01803). This project generated more than 20 publications of international impact and relevance, as well as the doctoral thesis “Factores psicosociales y su influencia en el dolor postoperatorio pediátrico”, co-directed by her, that was defended in 2012. In December, 2018 finished the last project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, titled “The motivational framework of the Fear-Avoidance Model of Chronic Pain: Optimism, goal conflict and disability” (PSI2013-42512-P). This project generated more than 21 publications of international impact and relevance, as well as the international doctoral thesis "Involvement of the Behavioral Inhibition and Activation Systems on the Experience of Individuals with Chronic Pain with and without Comorbid Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms", co-directed by Alicia López and Carmen Ramírez-Maestre, that was defended in 2018. Finally, in June 2020 the project “Predictive variables of prescription opioid abuse in patients with chronic non-oncologic pain: Development of a risk detection scale (VAPREABOPI)” (PID2019-106086RB-I00), has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology, being Dr. Ramírez-Maestre the PI.
