Jorge D. M. Mateus is a researcher specialising in Philosophy and Ethics, with a focus on Social and Political Philosophy, the History of Political Thought, and Neuroethics. He earned his PhD in Political Philosophy from the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Minho in 2024, following a Master’s degree in Political Philosophy (2015) and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Relations (2013). Jorge has an extensive research background, having published articles and presented at numerous academic conferences. His doctoral research examined the ethics of human enhancement and theories of well-being, while his earlier work explored distributive justice and property rights. From 2016 to 2018, he was a researcher at the Manchester Centre for Political Theory, University of Manchester, where he focused on theories of justice and relational equality. He later pursued a PhD at the Centre for Ethics, Politics, and Society at the University of Minho, investigating the philosophical dimensions of transhumanism and the ethics of human enhancement. His current research explores the ethical and philosophical implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and the Internet of Bodies (IoB), particularly in relation to autonomy, agency, creativity, and memory. His work critically examines how these technologies contribute to the evolving redefinition of human identity and human nature. Jorge also has teaching expertise in Ethics, Political Philosophy, the History of Political Thought, Theories of Well-Being, and Philosophical Anthropology.
