My doctoral studies in Chemical Engineering were funded by a 4-year Spanish FPI fellowship, and in 2008, I was awarded the PhD with a Cum Laude distinction, receiving the Best Thesis Award of the University of Vigo. Since my doctorate, I have pursued my investigation at NOVA University of Lisbon (UNL), Portugal. In the first years of my Post-Doc, I won 5 national grants and an international one - a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship. Currently, I hold a Principal Researcher position at the LAQV - REQUIMTE, NOVA School of Science and Technology, UNL. In 2020, I was identified by Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research (I&EC Research) as a thought leader in chemical engineering/applied chemistry whose work has been noteworthy, creative, and significant (researchers in the first third of their independent research career: I&EC Research 2020 Class of Influential Researchers). I have already published 107 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with an accumulated impact factor (IF) of 460 (20 papers are ranked in the top 5 of the corresponding areas, 68 papers in the first 25% highest IF, Q1, 33 in the first 13% and 9 in the first 7%) and 47 as corresponding author (independent investigator since 2010). I have accumulated more than 4424 citations and an h-index of 38. I have also participated in 27 R&D projects funded by public and private institutions (2 industrial, 7 international, 4 Spanish and 14 Portuguese). I am Coordinator and Principal Investigator in 9 projects: 1 industrial project, 3 FCT projects and 5 international projects. During the last 5 years, I have also led 5 research projects: 4 European projects (3 as coordinators (7733 keuros, with 1607 keuros for my team) and 1 as Portuguese coordinator with 260 keuros) and 1 Portuguese from FCT project (a total of 240 keuros managed). Furthermore, I have coordinated other Green Deal proposal (LC-GD-8-1-2020 with contributions from 15 other partners coming with an overall budget of 12 174 keuros) with a score of 14.5/15 (the first on the reserved list). Other academic contributions include 4 book chapters, 69 papers in conference proceedings, 31 invited oral communications and 192 communications in conferences (66 oral and 126 posters). Moreover, I have also registered one Spanish patent. I am participating in COST Action CA18224 - GREENERING and also participated in the Spanish Ionic Liquid Network and as a member of COST Action CM1206 EXIL. I have established strong research networking connections with several researchers, seeking expertise and research approaches complementary to mine, which has already resulted in co-authored publications, international partnerships in projects and co-supervision of students with: Abu Dhabi (U.A.E.), Italy, Netherlands, Tunisia, Lithuania, South Africa, Switzerland, UK, France, Germany, Colombia and Spain. I completed the supervision of 73 researchers (7 PostDoc, 5 PhD, 20 master's students, 31 bachelor students and 10 research fellowships. Currently, I supervise 3 Junior Investigators, 3 PhD students, 2 master's students and 2 initial researchers. I have been proposed to: the Editorial Board of Nanomaterials and Sustainable Chemistry; was an invited professor at Université de Pau, France; have participated on the jury of 23 Ph.D. Thesis and 9 Master's Thesis; have been invited to review papers in 45 high impact factor journals, am a member of several evaluation panels for national and international projects, have been invited to lecture in PhD Programs.
