My research career is mainly focused on the study and valorization of Natural Stone and cultural heritage-related materials, particularly in materials' characterization and processes related to their interaction with microorganisms. I was granted a PhD fellowship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) to complete my PhD thesis, which involved studying the weathering phenomena of Natural Stone. Specifically, I characterized the color change mechanisms that occurred in commercial limestones and marbles under historical and contemporary contexts. To determine the contribution of biocolonization, the microbiota thriving on the substrata and its dynamics were assessed using culture-dependent and advanced molecular methods. Nowadays, my research is mainly focused on the development of novel products for a sustainable preservation of heritage materials. During my research path, I have received two best communication awards at international conferences as the main author, and recently, the Portuguese Society of Microbiology awarded me with a Young Career Scientist Grant. My scientific and teaching track record comprises 62 peer-reviewed publications, 48 of which in SCI journals Q1 and Q2. I have made over 90 contributions to scientific congresses, resulting from dynamic and strong interactive collaborations with researchers and projects at national and international levels. I have also taught classes at the University of Evora integrated in masters' courses, including the ARCHMAT: ERASMUS MUNDUS Master in Archaeological Materials Science. Additionally, I have supervised students, with 2 completed MSc, 2 completed BSc and 2 ongoing theses (PhD and BSc), and I have reviewed papers by invitation to be published in peer-reviewed Q1 and Q2 ranked journals. Organization and collaboration of scientific events and workshops have been also done. Currently, I am an integrated member of the HERCULES Laboratory and an associated member of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). I am involved in various projects, including IN2PAST (LA/P/0132/2020), Sustainable Stone by Portugal (PRR program), ALMADA (PTDC/ART-HIS/1370/2020), PP-nGLASS (EXPL/HAR-ARQ/0381/2021), and Eco-STONEPROTEC (EXPL/CTA-GEO/0609/2021), whith the latter as the Co-Principal Investigator.
