Dr. Franco is currently a collaborating researcher at CQE, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He completed PhD (2018) in Chemistry from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF, MG, Brazil). His PhD thesis comprised of the synthesis and catalytic applications of coordination polymers based on lanthanide metals, along with X-ray crystallography. He was particularly involved in the development of the first system to use coordination polymers as heterogeneous catalysts for coupling of glycerol and urea to produce glycerol carbonate. After his PhD, he was hired as a Junior Professor (2018–2020), through a competitive call (fixed contractual position), to teach theoretical-practical classes to BSc students (6 different subjects, 18 h/week). At that time, Dr. Franco had the opportunity to develop his pedagogical and research skills. In three years as a researcher in Portugal, Dr. Franco has participated in several research projects on the synthesis and characterization of coordination polymers and catalytic systems, as well as biological applications of these materials. In the last 5 years (2019-2024), he published 21 scientific papers; 18 of which were classified as Q1/Q2 (82%), along with an invitation to be featured on the cover of the journal Inorganic Chemistry and a patent submitted, highlighting substantial productivity and indicating a strong outlook for future performance. A good number of papers was published in major international journals in the field, including Inorg. Chem. (IF = 4.3, 2023), Dalton Trans. (IF = 3.5, 2023), CrystEngComm (IF = 3.117, 2019), RSC Adv. (IF = 3.9, 2023), Eur. J. Med. Chem. (IF = 6.7, 2022), Fuel Process. Technol. (IF = 7.2, 2024), and Int. J. Pharm (IF = 5.3, 2023). Furthermore, Dr. Franco received invitations to write five book chapters, including two specifically designed for teaching purposes. Dr. Franco has had a variety of teaching assignments in Chemistry subjects in Brazil and in Portugal. These contributions have resulted in standalone pedagogical works that enhanced his academic portfolio. He is an author of over 70 peer-reviewed publications and was also a member of the organizing committees of two scientific events (national and international) and is responsible for the organization of another international scientific event (Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2025). Dr. Chris Franco has worked on numerous projects as a researcher and collaborator. Dr. Franco also became interested in the areas of 3D electron diffraction and mechanochemistry as important topics to shape the professional future. He is a member of Electron Crystallography division of the European Crystallographic Association (SIG4) to promote scientific activities in the field of Electron Crystallography. In 2024, he won a project as Principal Investigator (PI) focused on the development of advanced materials for health applications. Additionally, he is involved in COST actions, which are crucial for internationalization in Europe. He has been involved in other activities, including reviewing manuscripts, guest editing, scientific dissemination activities, and delivering invited lectures. In addition, he participated in the review and evaluation of European projects. Dr. Franco has demonstrated ability in coordinating and leading research teams during his three-year stay in Portugal. He is currently co-supervising one post-doctoral researcher (Spain), four PhD students (Brazil/Portugal), and one MSc student (Poland), reflecting his proactive approach to forming his own research group. Dr. Franco's research focuses mainly on Coordination Chemistry, Crystal Engineering, Bioinorganic Chemistry and Catalysis, with emphasis on the synthesis and characterization of MOFs and CPs. His work has focused on the development of these materials as bioactive agents to combat microbial multidrug resistance. He has been involved in teaching since 2018 and looks forward to continuing his scientific career.
