Documentarian, researcher, independent journalist, writer, university professor, and educator in Media Literacy and Journalism. I hold a PHD in Studies for Communication for Development (Fellowship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia), focusing on cinematic narratives and how to humanize stories crossing documentary and journalism's fields. I contribute to CICANT and I'm an invited member of the IAMCR. Presently I am also developing my second feature length documentary ("The Spell of Sand") with production house Real Ficção, funded by Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual. I hold a Master in Information and Journalism (Universidade do Minho), a Degree in Journalism (Escola Superior de Jornalismo do Porto) and a Specialization Diploma in Documentary either from Academia Internacional de Cinema (São Paulo), from EICTV- Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (Cuba) and Museum of Image and Sound (São Paulo, Brazil). I also have a specialization certificate on Media and Journalism Literacy by the Portuguese's Journalists' Union and the Ministry of Education (Portugal), therefore I am certified instructor in media literacy and Journalism for the Directorate-General for Education. I teach Journalism at Lusófona University of Porto. I've also been working as a Media Literacy educator in the project Dici-Educa - Educational centers with digital and civic skills (co-financed by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian/Academias do Conhecimento and Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services). I contribute to several production houses (Ideias com Pernas, Golpe Filmes, Real Ficção) and to several media outlets as freelancer since 2006 (DN, Público, Observador, TSF). I lived in Brazil for 5 years as a foreigner correspondent for Radio TSF (Portuguese national news radio) and Diário de Notícias (newspaper), covering Human Rights, International Affairs, Politics, Organized Crime, Culture and Sustainable Development. My feature length documentary "Land's Baptism", about Portuguese Immigration won several awards, such as Best Woman Director (2018) at European Cinematography Awards and Best Cinematography at Hollywood Women's Film Festival, in Los Angeles (2019). In 2013 I lived in Amman, Jordan, to research and co-write a documentary script about the Jerash Palestinian Refugee Camp (aka Gaza Camp) for Palestinian Director Dalia Abuzeid. In 2009 I traveled for 4 months in the Brazilian Amazonia to uncover untold stories about the region for several media outlets. In 2018 my book "Ala Feminina" (Edições Desassossego, 2018) about women in prison (Brazil and Portugal) was published either in Portugal and Brazil. In 2020, I was invited to write the Investigative Journalism Manual for NGO ACEP. Between 2018-2019 I was the coordinator in Mozambique for the "Futuros Criativos" project for the Camões Institute and ACEP, about the new artistic generation in the country. In 2018, I was a jury member at Fest Films - Luso-Afro-Brazilian Audiovisual Festival (Brazil), a member of the jury of the "Gabriel Garcia Marquez Journalism award" from Fundación de Nuevo Periodismo (FNPI-Colombia). And yet, the first European woman to join the jury of the international prize for African Poetry, Tchicaya U Tam'si, awarded by the Assilah Foundation, Morocco. In 2013 I won a Literary Prize at the International Literary Festival in Paraty, Brazil, with a short story about a soldier's life on the war in Mozambique. In 2014 I received an Honorable Mention in the UNESCO - Journalism, Integration and Human Rights award for the audio-documentary "Palestine, diaries from an uncertain place". In 2010, my photographic work on Landless Rural Workers, in Pará, Brazil, was distinguished at the Black & White - Audiovisual Film Festival. In 2011 I was awarded the fellowship by Luso-American Foundation for the Course "The Elements of Journalism" by the Committee of the Concerned Journalists in Washington (USA).
