Fernanda Caroline Rodrigues Magalhães completed her Master's degree in Spatial Planning and Urbanism in 2023 at the Instituto Superior Técnico and holds a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urbanism as a scholarship recipient from Cruzeiro do Sul University, Brazil, obtained in 2015. During her undergraduate studies, her final thesis focused on the Urbanization of Slums and Construction of Social Interest Housing. Currently, she is enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Architecture at the Instituto Superior Técnico. In Brazil, she worked as an architect for five years (2016-2021), both in private companies and in public institutions. In 2021, she began her Master's studies and a six-month research scholarship in the "Sustainable Campus" project, where she conducted research in environmental management, specifically in waste management, sustainable mobility, water efficiency, rational water use, and energy efficiency. In 2022, she started another nine-month research scholarship in the "Accelerate Future" project, focused on integrating the knowledge triangle and implementing acceleration and innovation services in Higher Education Institutions, as well as providing support and training for the transformation of these institutions. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Shellter project team, conducting scientific research and collecting direct and indirect information regarding the reuse of waste from aquaculture (oysters), as well as working on her Master's thesis on the topic of "Blue Circular Economy in the Algarve - Reuse and Valorization of Bivalve Shells". She is part of the team that won the sixth edition of the "Concurso Mares Circulares", promoted by Coca-Cola in partnership with LPN - Liga para a Proteção da Natureza, with the ongoing BlocOyster project, aimed at developing sustainable blocks incorporating aquaculture waste to contribute to a sustainable blue economy. In 2023, she was invited to participate in the XXIV Aquaculture Seminar to present the potential of Oyster Shells. In the same year, she presented the results of the survey conducted as part of her Master's thesis at the XIV Congresso de Geografia Portuguesa. In the context of the blue circular economy and reuse of aquaculture products, she has published 3 articles in journals, had 1 article approved for an international conference to be presented in May 2024, and had 2 abstracts approved for international conferences in 2024. Currently, she is part of the research center CiTUA (Center for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism, and Architecture) and CERIS (Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability), both at the Instituto Superior Técnico, as well as being a member of the GEOTPU.LAB (Laboratory of Planning, Urbanism, Architecture and Environment) and PERCOAT (Performance of Coatings and Building Solutions) research group.
