Rui Dinis de Sousa holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia, USA, a Master of Science in Informatics (specialization in Business Informatics), and a five-year degree in Systems Engineering and Informatics from the University of Minho, Portugal. At the University of Minho, in the Department of Information Systems at the Engineering School, he teaches Business Process Management, Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Systems, and Research and Development in Information Systems and Technology. As a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre, he is a member of the Information Systems and Technologies for the Transformation of Organizations and Society (ISTTOS) laboratory at the Information Systems and Technologies (IST) research group. His research interests focus on business-IT alignment, IT governance, organizational development, and enterprise engineering, taking advantage of business process management and enterprise architecture approaches and technologies, where he has supervised master's and Ph.D. dissertations, one of them as a foreign supervisor at the Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan. Co-author of a chapter on educating future IST professionals for organization design and engineering, he is also a co-editor of a book on Information Systems and Technology for Organizational Agility, Intelligence, and Resilience and a book on Information Systems - Diagnostics and Prospects, sponsored by the Portuguese Association of Information Systems. Member of the committees of many international conferences, namely the ones that are conferences of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), he served as associate editor of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). Furthermore, he was a local organizer of the ECIS and the Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (MCIS). Co-founder and vice-president of the Portuguese Institute of BPM (IPBPM), he co-organized the first BPM conference in Portugal. He served for a decade as a conference or program chair of that national annual event, bringing together academics and practitioners to promote process orientation in organizations. Capitalizing on the acquired expertise, he recently confounded the Portuguese Association for Organizational Innovation. He is a board member of the Portuguese Association of Information Systems, having co-founded the Faculty Portuguese Chapter of the Association of Information Systems (AIS). He is also the faculty advisor for the Student Chapter of AIS at the University of Minho. He was involved in national projects co-funded by the European Union for the private sector, namely in the software industry sector regarding the implementation of integrated systems, and national projects for the public sector, namely, for the Ministry of Health on opportunities to improve health information systems and for Ministry of Agriculture on the improvement of business processes. At the international level, he was involved in the World IT project as the lead researcher for Portugal in a study of the IT workforce in more than 40 countries. As principal investigator from the University of Minho, he participated recently in "SMEs: Be Prepared for Supply Chain Risks.", a two-year ERASMUS+ project with researchers from Austria, Estonia, Germany, Greece, and Italy. He was the director of a 5-year degree in Business Informatics, a 3-year degree in Information Systems and Technologies, and a master's degree in Information Systems, once again director of the latter. He was appointed Deputy Director of the Information Systems Department at the University of Minho, where he served for two 2-years terms. Recently, he has been nominated as the coordinator of the SAP Next-Gen Lab at UMinho to explore SAP's latest technologies for digital innovation and transformation of organizations and society.
