Sara F. Vieira (SFV) is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Mountain Research Center (CIMO) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB). SFV has a Ph.D. in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, and Stem Cells (University of Minho), an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on Biomaterials, Rehabilitation, and Biomechanics (University of Minho), and a BSc in Biomedical Engineering (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro). SFV research interests are (i) the chemistry of natural products (extraction, identification, fractionation, and isolation of bioactive compounds); (ii) the bioactivity of natural products; (iii) the food sustainability (valorization of by-products and agri-food waste); and (iv) the encapsulation of natural bioactive compounds into nanoparticles. SFV has multidisciplinary training in various complementary areas, such as natural matrix, extraction techniques, manufacturing techniques, surface characterization, cell culture, cellular and molecular biology, analytical chemistry, drug research, nanomedicine, immunology, biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and in vivo models. These skills and knowledge allow her to adapt to different scientific and technological fields. Throughout her journey, SFV got the opportunity to guide and share knowledge with 1 ungraduated, 5 MSc, and 3 Ph.D. students. Additionally, she had established collaborations with various research groups from different universities, resulting in several scientific publications. SFV was also responsible for overseeing some of the most utilized equipment in the laboratory. She also participated in PhDynamics, contributing to event organization and the promotion of science dissemination. SFV also interacted with the biotechnology sector through its engagement with iLoF - Intelligent Lab on Fiber as a biologist. As a researcher, SFV awarded 1 research scholarship (LA ICVS 3Bs, 2017, 3B's Research Group), 2 Ph.D. scholarships from the FCT under the Ph.D. programme in Advanced Therapies for Health (PATH, PD/00169/2013, PD/BD/135246/2017, COVID/BD/152012/2021, 2017-2022, 3B's Research Group), and 1 Post-doctoral research grant (Net4Food, 2024, CIMO). SFV also participated in 7 international Projects (Flexpol, SPARTAN, FROnTHERA, Cells4_IDs, HEALTH-UNORTE, CHIRALBIOACTIVE, Net4Food). SFV academic track record of innovation and research excellence includes 16 papers top peer review scientific journals (8 as first author, 8 as co-author, 11 published), 5 oral presentations, and 20 poster presentations. She has an h-index of 7 according to Google Scholar, being her work cited nearly 120 times since 2018.
