Nuno Torres Faria finished his PhD in Bioengineering in 2014 from Lisbon University, Instituto Superior Técnico. Back in 2008, NTF received his degree in Biomedical Engineering from Minho University, Portugal. He started his research work at Minho University, Portugal, by assessing a new molecular method, PNA-FISH, for the detection of Helicobacter pylori and resistances in gastric biopsies. In 2009 he was awarded with a scholarship through the MIT-Portugal Program, working on yeast biosurfactant production from lignocellulose as a novel strategy to produce jet biofuel at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG). He participated and won the 8th edition of the Green Project Awards (2015) in the category of R&D, with the team and project Green Detergents. He is now Researcher in Instituto for Bioengineering and Biosciences, and Invited Assistant Professor at Bioengineering Department, IST. His research is focused on biorefinery concepts based on lignocellulosic waste materials combining unconventional yeast and enzymatic hydrolysis or consolidated bioprocessing for the development of sustainable bioprocesses for green surfactants, enzymes, chemical building blocks and winter and jetfuel precursors production.
