Catarina Belo won a first-class bachelor of honours degree in Film from Edinburgh Napier University in the UK. During this time, she engaged in a semester of overseas studies at Deakin University, Burwood, Victoria, Australia majoring in Film but with minor subjects in both anthropology and economics. From her bachelor originated the thesis "Female Depictions in Bollywood Cinema and in Satyajit Ray's Devi and Charulata: An Analysis" and the short film "Rise". Returning to Lisbon, Portugal she completed a Masters in Anthropology at FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa whilst working for a portuguese NGO as a local coordinator, researcher, and documentarist/video technician for EU (Horizon) and Erasmus + funded projects related to art, mental health, youth and gender and disabilities inequalities. She still works in this field. Her masters dissertation entitled "Portraits of a Peripheral Generation: Non-Metropolitan Millennials and Lifestyle in the North of Portugal (Retratos de uma Geração Periférica: Millennials Não-Metropolitanos e Estilo de Vida no Norte de Portugal)" aims to explore what constitutes the lifestyle of Portuguese millennials in the North of Portugal in both rural and medium sized urban areas through an intertextual and multisited approach focusing on aspects such as family and career aspirations, labour market, migration, concepts of tradition, consummer behaviour and overall quality of life. An abstract of this dissertation was orally presented as part of the panel "Pastoral e Contra-Pastoral", part of the Conference "Festa, Antropologia, Nação e Migrações: Encontro em torno da obra de João Leal", organized by CRIA/IN2PAST/Dep. of Anthropology NOVA FCSH. From the beginning of 2023 she has been collaborating on the research project Histórias da Antropologia em Portugal (1940-1970) (Stories of Anthropology in Portugal 1940-1970) led by the researcher and professor João Leal (CRIA-NOVA FCSH). She is currently an Associated Researcher for CRIA (Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia - Centre for Research in Anthropology).
