Sofia Costa de Oliveira is graduated in Microbiology by the Faculty of Biotechnology from the Portuguese Catholic University (1997) and since then she has been developing her research in Medical Microbiology at Porto Faculty of Medicine. Master in Public Health by Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto and PhD in Biomedicine in 2012 by the University of Porto with a thesis entitled "Mechanisms of antifungal resistance in pathogenic yeasts: evaluation of the in vitro and in vivo expression". She is a Professor of Medical Microbiology at Faculty of Medicine at University of Porto since 2006. Her work was distinguished by the Medical community with the "Clinical Mycology Research Grant" and "1º Pfizer Award" by the Lisbon Medical Science Society, among others. Since 2009, she is a researcher at CINTESIS - Center for Health Technology and Services Research, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. She co-founded of FASTinov, S.A., a spin-off from University of Porto, and until 2018 she was the scientific director. She was awarded 2 research project and participated as team member in 11 FCT and two H2020 projects. She has been invited as a reviewer of several scientific periodicals. She is a member of the editorial board of Journal of Fungi, where the is the guest editor of a special section Invasive Candidiasis, Microorganisms, and Frontiers in Microbiology. She is a co-author of 2 patents. Her research field is focused on the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, Public Health, and developing molecular diagnostic strategies for managing invasive infections. She has published over 60 scientific papers with high-impact factors in international journals. She was the supervisor of 11 Master's students and 2 PhD students.
