I'm a tenure-track assistant professor of Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal). I enjoy solving chemical engineering design problems in a collaborative manner with a strong emphasis on education. My research mainly aims at (i) understanding how catalysts work via mathematical models (catalysis informatics) and (ii) design sustainable processes by combining knowledge of all scales (multi-scale modelling). I have authored 31 publications (14 as first author and 9 as corresponding author) and 2 patents. I have presented 5 invited talks and 4 invited webinars. I am currently one of the principal investigators in the 3 M€ workpackage of the "Moving2Neutrality" PRR agenda led by Petrogal. I have also obtained individual competitive funding for both my PhD (FCT) and postdoc (UGent). I have created international collaborations in catalysis informatics and multi-scale modelling (e.g. MIT, ULorraine, Northwestern University), in addition to the active participation in large European projects (e.g. H2020 C123; ERC PoC SEReNiTi). Building on my increased independence as a researcher, I have been able to synergize my societal concerns with my academic work. Namely by: (i) improving process sustainability (e.g. 2 patents; ChERD 2020 paper); (ii) well-being-centred student guidance (very positive feedback from 23 MSc and 5 PhD students); (iii) raising awareness for diversity and multicultural aspects (e.g. via workshops). I am currently the EU Open Science ambassador for Catalysis, actively promoting open science practices, sharing data and training young scientists on it.
