Nuno Araújo obtained his PhD from the Univ. Minho (2009), with a 3-month internship at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (US). Then, he moved to ETH Zurich for a postdoc in the group of Prof. Hans Herrmann, where, after 3 years, he became a senior assistant. In 2014, he was awarded a 5-year fellowship as Principal Investigator by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), in a highly competitive international call with 14% success rate, to work at the Univ. Lisboa, where he became an Assistant Professor in September 2016, an Associate Professor in October 2021, and Full Professor in December 2024. In the last 10 years, he worked in different problems in Statistical Physics, resulting in ~100 publications without the PhD supervisor including 2 Nature Comm., 1 Science Adv., 1 PNAS, 1 Adv. Coll. Int. Sci., 11 PRLs, 1 J. Cell Bio., and 2 EPLs. His work has been highlighted as editor suggestions (3 PRL), editor choice (EPL), 3 covers of PRL, and reports in the media (e.g., Nature, Science, Physics, Physics World, Scientific American, CNN, and Spiegel online). 15 other publications are in well-known interdisciplinary international journals (4 in PLoS One and 11 in Sci. Rep.). 9 articles are in the journal of reference for soft matter (Soft Matter) and 31 are in the three journals of reference for Statistical Physics (28 in PRE, 1 in J. Stat. Mech. and 2 in Physica A). These works have attracted already thousands of citations. Today, Araújo has an h= 23 (ISI) / 28 (Google Scholar). He was an invited speaker at 14 international conferences (including 2 APS March Meetings and 2 Satellites of Statphys), 25 seminars at various institutions, and 6 international (summer and winter) schools. Since 2010, Araújo has been very active in supervising at all levels, including the supervision of 4 Postdoc fellows, 11 PhD students, and 19 Master students. In Lisbon (since 2014), he joined the Center for Theoretical and Computational Physics (CFTC), a Research Unit committed to excellence in research and training in Theoretical Physics, with a special focus on Soft Matter. He has been responsible for the research line in numerical modeling and he is the Scientific Coordinator of CFTC since 2018. Araújo established several collaborations with groups in Europe, US, and South America, which are relevant for the success of this project. In Portugal, he is the PI of a project granted by FCT (co-PI: Prof. Margarida Telo da Gama) which, besides its scientific objectives, aims at exploring and promoting synergies among groups working in theory and experiments of ¿Active Matter on Substrates¿. At the European level, he is involved in one project on Active Matter: supervising PhD students and leading a WP in one Innovative Training Network (ITN). He is also a Visiting Professor at the Universidade Federal do Ceará, in one of the most productive departments of Physics in Brazil, which is strategic to attract highly qualified Postdocs and Students. His expertise and independence have been recognized by editors of several journals. He refereed 100+ papers over the last 5 years, he was selected Outstanding Referee of APS journals (2018) and Emerging Leader (2017) by the editorial board of the Journal of Physics: Condensed matter. He is a member of the editorial board of two journals.
