I am a bioinformatician but as I used to say, ¿above all I am a biologist¿!! I have a BSc in Biology and a MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology, both awarded by the University of Aveiro. Nevertheless, my urgent need to know more about the emerging field - at the time - Bioinformatics it took me to the University of Minho where I completed a MSc in Bioinformatics. My professional path started in Spain where I entered in my first fellowship at the end of my stay at the University of Vigo ¿ Campus of Ourense. After that I started working as a freelancer for a company of Switzerland where I developed my programming skills. I got in later into an internship in Oporto at a diagnose facility of rare diseases (CGPP). Still, in Oporto I joined into my second fellowship, in the field of population genetics applied to virus and cancer, at Ipatimup - i3S. I entered in another fellowship connected to a project called Metafluidics, in Cantanhede at a facility of NGS ¿ Genoinseq, that makes part of CNC of University of Coimbra. So far, I have published 5 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals (2 as first author) in the areas of, microbiology network mining, 2 in population genetics of virus and one in taxonomy classification of a new bacterial species (Tepidimonas xarontis) as well as one in the microbiology of freshwaters. I am currently in a PhD studentship granted by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia in a project entitled "A computational framework towards the study of metabolic interactions of the gut microbiome and the human host in Type 2 Diabetes" and it will end in 2025.
