Raul Fernandes Berenguel

Raul Berenguel has a degree in History (scientific branch) from the Aberta University (2008), having obtained the degree of PhD in History, in the Specialty of Contemporary Art (thesis in Gemmology), at the same university, wiith summa cum laude. He attended the Physics course at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (3 years) and the Electronicl Engineering course at the University of Porto Faculty of Engineering (2 years). Interested in several areas of science, he was a member of the Scientific Council of CTEC - Center for Transdisciplinary Studies of Consciousness, Research Center of Fernando Pessoa University (2001 - 2024). He belongs to the International Independent Research Group: "M.A.R.I.A.N." He was an integrated researcher at Clepul - Lusophone and European Literature and Cultures Center of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon /Pole of Porto (2013-2022). He is a collaborating researcher at CITCEM - Center for Transdisciplinary Research Culture, Space and Memory of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto. He is a teacher and researcher at GEMSValue, Gemological Laboratory (Lisbon), consultant for "Wise Jewelry Applications" (Gemological Software, USA.) and collaborator of the International Geem Society (USA). Between 1994-1996 was one of the first winners of the Bial Foundation Scholarship (Bial Laboratories). He was a member of the organizing group of the Pedagogical-Scientific Implementation of the Minerva Project, the first national plan aiming at the implementation of information technologies at the level of secondary education in Portugal, and was also a professor of the Special Techniques Group at Matosinhos Secondary School No. 1 (Current João Gonçalves Zarco Secondary School), from 1986 to 1992, by invitation of the School Board. He obtained the certificate of professional aptidude as a trainer, issued by the Ministry for Qualification and Employment (National System of Professional Certification - Institute of Employment and Professional Training), having carried out vocational training courses in several domais. He participated in the organization of several international and national symposiums having published several books as author, co-author and coordinator, magazine publications and posters in scientific procedures, dozens of diverse, national and international articles as well as professional manuals. He was invited as a speaker to various scientific national and international conferences. He received the "Certificate of Excellence for Performance and Contribution" from Spec - Portuguese Society for Scientific Exploration (1977), received the Certificate of Merit "For Outstanding Academic Performance" by the International Gem Society (2012), and was invited to sign the Book of Honor of the Portuguese Association of Gemology - Gemological Institute of Portugal (2013). From 2018 to date, he equipped its own laboratory (not dependent on external financing), where it conducts the study and construction of equipment for scientific research on art objects, historical artifacts and other research activities.
