I am a Geographer with a PhD in Human Geography, Regional and Urban Planning from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, University of Lisbon (IGOT-UL) with a thesis on Resilience and Sustainability in Urban Systems. Presently, I am an Auxiliary Professor at the University of Évora.My main research interests are: Urban and Regional Planning; Housing Planning; Geography of Crisis and Evolutionary Resilience; Resilient Regions and Cities; and Public policy evaluation. In the last 8 years, I've participated in seven research projects (5 FCT projects), co-edited two books ("Planning the City-Region of the Future" is the latest) and a special issue of a journal. I've published 11 book chapters, 25 journal papers, and participated (mostly as coordinator) in 14 technical reports on these research topics. Before my current position, I did research for twelve years (2005-2017) at the Center for Geographical Studies, IGOT-UL. Since 2011, I've been teaching subjects related to Regional and Urban Planning, Economic Geography, and Urban Geography, first at IGOT-UL and, since 2017, at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences at the UA. Furthermore, I had five years of effective experience in spatial planning, as a Senior Geographer in Local Admiration (one year in Civil Protection and 4 years in Urban Planning), where I participated in the elaboration, revision, and adaptation of numerous spatial planning instruments (mainly as coordinator). In these 5 years, I've had all the possible experiences of someone who works directly and daily with concrete challenges and real planning problems. Over the past decade, I've done voluntary civil service in different institutions, initiatives, and movements.
