José Figueiredo (Ph.D. in Physics - Microelectronics and Optoelectronics; MSc in Optoelectronics and Lasers; BSc in Physics - Optics & Electronics) has extensive experience in engineering (or applied) physics and electronic engineering, particularly in microelectronics and optoelectronics. His expertise spans solid-state physics, semiconductor device physics, nanotechnology, and low-dimensional materials and devices for high-speed electronics and photonics applications. He has contributed to the development of novel photodetectors and light emitters, high-speed electronic and optoelectronic devices and circuits based on resonant tunneling effect, including neuromorphic circuits, for information processing and sensing applications, as well as the characterization and application of optical fibers and fiber-based instrumentation. He has won grants for transferring research knowledge for commercial exploitation and has led multiple national R&D projects as a Principal Investigator and served as the local PI for three European Commission-funded research grants (H2020, Marie Sklodowska-Curie ITN, and FET Open).
