Luís Correia, born in 1989 on Madeira Island, has made significant contributions to the fields of structural durability and composite materials. His expertise focuses on the long-term performance of innovative materials, particularly Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRPs). Correia has authored 21 peer-reviewed journal articles, presented at over 25 international and national conferences, edited 3 books, and contributed 4 book chapters, alongside more than 25 scientific reports. Correia began his research career in 2013 with the FCT-funded FRPreDur project (PTDC/ECM-EST/2424/2012), focusing on experimental programs involving full-scale slabs, numerical simulations, and design guidelines. He was awarded an FCT individual PhD scholarship (SFRH/BD/98309/2013), enabling his doctoral studies on the durability of RC slabs strengthened with prestressed FRP laminate strips. During his PhD, Correia also worked on the FRPLongDur project (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016900), investigating the effects of high temperatures on FRP bond behavior, and contributed to the EASYFLOOR project (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-003480), which explored the restoration of historic wooden floors using pultruded sandwich panels. Since completing his PhD in 2018, Correia has taken on leadership roles that include serving as Deputy Coordinator of the FRP++ Master Program, where he oversees multidisciplinary teaching and organizes events such as the annual FRP++ workshop. He is currently supervising three PhD and two MSc students, fostering the next generation of structural engineers. Correia’s ongoing projects include the StickeR project (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039755) and contributions to prEN19101 for the new Eurocode as a member of the WG4 project team in the CEN/TC 250 committee. An active member of the ISISE research institute, Correia leverages its state-of-the-art facilities to advance experimental and numerical research on adaptive and sustainable materials. His collaborations extend internationally, including partnerships with Empa (Switzerland), the University of Girona (Spain), and Aalborg University (Denmark). These collaborations have solidified his international research network and provide a foundation for future opportunities. Correia’s career is distinguished by his focus on bridging experimental research and practical applications in structural engineering, contributing to the development of innovative, durable, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
