Elaine Alves Pinheiro holds a Master’s degree in the Science of Emotions from ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, where she developed research centered on the dual concept of emotional modulation–demodulation, proposing an integrative framework of emotional processes that articulates psychology, affective neuroscience, and computational approaches. Since September 2025, she has been a PhD candidate in Psychology at the University of Salamanca, where she has been deepening and expanding the work initiated during her master’s degree. In this context, she has advanced the original model into a broader theoretical and computational framework, formalizing emotional modulation–demodulation as an original dual-process contribution to the science of emotions. Her scientific activity is focused on the intersection of emotions, biosignals, and artificial intelligence. She is co-author of papers presented at international IEEE conferences, including studies on adolescent emotional modulation through machine learning, intelligent biosignal analysis in dementia, and the integration of biosignals, virtual reality, and emotional intervention for stress and anxiety relief. She is also co-author of two book chapters published in the context of the IBEROJUR international conference, reinforcing the interdisciplinary nature of her academic trajectory. Elaine has a multidisciplinary academic background, including studies in Theology, Environmental Management, and Psychology, complemented by further training in Positive Psychology, Clinical Psychoanalysis, and Behavioral Analysis. Professionally, she works as a psychotherapist, lecturer, and researcher, and serves as President of the International Association of Psychoanalysis and Counseling (AIPA), in Portugal. She also collaborated with Minutos Emblemáticos (Agilidades), contributing to the methodological development of the SMILIGHT project and its associated scientific production in the field of emotional function assessment in dementia based on biosignals. She is a collaborating researcher at ciTechCare – Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology, contributing to applied research in biosignals, artificial intelligence, and digital health. Her trajectory reflects a consistent scientific development from the conceptualization of emotional modulation–demodulation to its formalization in advanced theoretical and computational models, with an interdisciplinary and applied focus on psychology and digital health.
