I am an Associate Professor of Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and a researcher at the Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (CeFEMA) associated with the Laboratory of Physics for Materials and Emerging Technologies (LaPMET). I am also an associate member of the Beijing Computational Science Research Center (CSRC). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My research interests lie at the intersection of condensed matter physics and quantum information, with a particular focus on many-body strong-correlation effects and non-equilibrium processes in open quantum systems. I coordinate the [https://sites.google.com/tecnico.ulisboa.pt/qmat||q.m@t] team at IST and I am a founding member and one of the coordinators of the [https://quantummatterpt.weebly.com||QM@PT] research network. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prior to my current appointment, I held an Investigator FCT (Researcher) - Starting Grant (2014-2019) and was an invited Professor at the Physics Department of IST (2014-2019). Before that, I was a research fellow at the Russian Quantum Center (RQC), Moscow (2014-2015). I have held postdoctoral positions at prestigious institutions such as the Condensed Matter Theory Group of MIT, Cambridge, USA (2009-2010), Centro de Física das Interacções Fundamentais - CFIF, IST, Lisbon (2010-2011), and the Max Planck Institute - PKS, Dresden (2011-2013). I earned my PhD in 2008 from University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris-VI and my Master's in Physics Engineering from IST (2004). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My work has been published in top-tier journals, with 71 publications to date, including 18 articles in Physical Review Letters (PRL), 2 in Physical Review X (PRX), 1 in 2D Materials, 1 in npj Quantum Information, 2 in SciPost, 1 in Physical Review Research (PRR), 25 in Physical Review B (PRB), 5 in Physical Review A (PRA), 2 in Physical Review E (PRE), 2 in Europhysics Letters (EPL), 2 in New Journal of Physics (NJP), 1 in Journal of Statistical Mechanics (J. Stat. Mech.), 1-body in Annals of Physics, and 1 in Journal of Physics A. Additionally, I have authored four book chapters. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I believe that my research in open quantum systems away from equilibrium has the potential to yield groundbreaking discoveries in the design of novel materials with unprecedented properties that are unattainable at equilibrium, as well as in the development of cutting-edge technologies such as thermoelectrics, electronic and sensing devices, and quantum information processing.
