Cláudia Lobato da Silva (CLS) received a Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Biotechnology), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisboa (TUL) Portugal, in 2001, and got a PhD in Biotechnology in 2006 at IST-TUL in collaboration with the University of Nevada, USA. In 2007, CLS was hired as ¿Invited Assistant Professor¿ within the frame of the MIT-Portugal Program, and then initiating a 5-year Tenure-Track position (2008-2013) as Assistant Professor at Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering/Department of Bioengineering (DBE) at IST. Presently, CLS is Associate Professor (since 2019; Assistant Professor 2007-2018) at DBE-IST. Over the last years, CLS has been developing her pedagogical activities within the Scientific Area of Biomaterials, Nanotechnologies and Regenerative Medicine at DBE-IST teaching and coordinating several courses at BSc, MSc and PhD level, being awarded with the Diploma of Excellence in Teaching by the Pedagogical Council of IST since 2007/2008. Since 2019, CLS has assumed several coordination activities within educational programs of IST, being the Coordinator/Vice-Coordinator of BSc/MSc cycles in Biomedical Engineering since 2021, and member of the Scientific Committee of Doctoral Program in Bioengineering. In 2017-2022, CLS served as member of the Pedagogical Council of IST and since 2023 is member of the Scientific Council of IST. CLS has developed her research activities at iBB-Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences, Stem Cell Research Engineering Group (SCERG), where she coordinates the ¿Development and Manufacturing of Cellular & Molecular Therapies¿ Focus Area and is the PI of the Modulation of the Stem Cell Niche lab. Her research is developed within the thematic line TL2- Advanced Diagnostics and Therapies of the Associated Laboratory i4HB-Institute for Health and Bioeconomy. Her main research focus has been on the ex-vivo expansion of human stem/progenitor cells aiming at innovating the clinical manufacturing of cell-based therapies. The research developed has been funded through competitive research grants and also by patient organizations/clinical organizations and the industry (>1.03 M¿ raised in the last 5 years). Of notice, CLS is coordinating (national coordinator) key WPs in 2 H2020 funded projects: AMELIE - Anchored Muscle cELls for IncontinencE and UROPRINT - Urinary bladder bioprinting for fully autologous transplantation. As a result of the research activities developed, CLS edited 2 books and has authored 21 book chapters, 1 national patent and 97 scientific articles in peer-reviewed international ISI-indexed journals (h-index of 35, >3450 citations, according to ISI Web of Knowledge (accessed on February 2024). CLS supervised/co-supervised 10 Post-doctoral researchers, 32 PhD students (11 as main supervisor) and more than 40 Master students, who developed their research in the field of Stem Cell Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. In 2015-2019, CLS served as the Vice-President of the Portuguese Society for Stem Cells and Cellular Therapies (SPCE-TC)). CLS participated as Evaluation Panel member of the National FCT Call for individual PhD fellowships (Bioengineering and Biotechnology) in 2015 and served as Research Grant Peer Reviewer, Regenerative Medicine Research, for Medical Research Council (MRC), UK in 2013 & 2018.
