Pedro Babo is co-founder and the scientific director of LANDRATECH, LDA. He graduated in Microbial and Genetics Biology in 2007 and concluded his Master in Molecular and Genetics Biology in 2008 by Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon. From his Master studies in the genetic variability and agronomic characteristics of a temperate climate rice germplasm resulted 1 research paper and 2 conference presentations. In 2010, he was awarded with a FCT PhD scholarship with the project "Tissue engineering strategies for periodontal tissue regeneration based on platelet lysate" developed in collaboration with the 3B's Research Group (supervisor: Rui L. Reis) and the Department of Biomaterials (supervisor: John A. Jansen, Radboud Univ. Nijmegen, The Netherlands). His PhD thesis resulted in 7 research papers, and 2 reviews (80% published in Q1 international journals). As a PhD student he was also awarded with a travel award by the Society for Biomaterials (2014). In 2016, he defended his PhD with the highest mention. As a post-doc researcher he established a unique research line in endodontic regenerative therapies, which inspired the project "InjecTE - Injectable biomaterials for dental tissue engineering", a consortium between the institute 3B¿s, the Univ. Oslo (Norway), and the Univ. Hospital Regensburg (Germany) awarded with 1.3 M€ by the Norwegian Research Foundation. He has a h-index of 12, 390 citations, 1 registered patent, and published 27 articles (8 as first author) and 3 book chapters. He has also collaborated with 118 researchers (source: Scopus). He attended several highly-recognized scientific meetings, being selected for 15 oral and 17 poster presentations. Since 2017 he is an Invited Professor at Univ. Minho. He was also invited to give lectures in the Doctoral Program in Bioengineering (MIT Portugal Program). In 2019 he was invited to give a lecture at the International Academic Meeting of Dental Specialties, in the Univ. of Cuenca, Ecuador. He has been also strongly involved in supervision activities, as well as in establishing fruitful international collaborations. He supervised 6 PhD students, 9 Master students, and several trainees. Most of such students resulted from the established international collaborations, namely with Fed. Univ. Paraíba (Brazil), Univ. Pisa, Univ. Genova and Univ. Bologna (Italy), Univ. Maastricht (The Netherlands), Univ. Sidney (Australia), and Univ. Cuenca (Ecuador). He is also focused in technology transfer to promote academic-industry collaborations. In 2018 he created the project "Acorn Warehouse" for the valorization of acorns from European endemic forest. The project was finalist in the EIT-Food and MassChallenge accelerator programs in 2020. This project received a total investment of 120 k€ (Startup voucher) from the Institute for the Support of Small and Medium-size Enterprises (IAPMEI) and INNOV-ID (Portugal Ventures), supporting the creation of the StartUP LANDRATECH, LDA. He has established several contacts/partnerships with the academia, e.g. escola profissional Profitecla - Guimarães, CIMO - IPB; centro VALORIZA - IPP, ETH Zurich, and industry, e.g. Cerealis, Nestlé and Dacsa Atlantic. He is founding member of the "Confraria Ibérica da Bolota".
