Carla Maria Nobre Maleita completed her PhD in Biology-Ecology in 2012 from University of Coimbra (UC). Currently, she is
developing her research activities in the CERES - Chemical Engineering and Renewable Resources for Sustainability (CERES)
and in the Centre for Functional Ecology, UC. Since her PhD, the general objectives of the conducted research were to characterize
morphobiometrical, biochemical and molecularly root-knot nematodes (RKN) and root-lesion nematodes (RLN) species and contribute
for the knowledge of its biology, ecology and management. At present, her research focus on the development of innovative,
integrated and sustainable strategies for the management of RKN/RLN, through the development of fully degradable in soil bionematicide
delivery systems based on the use of phytocompounds from agricultural residues. She was coordinating a project on RKN management
(BioNem Mulch) and co-coordinating another on diagnosis of emerging RKN species (KnowLuci) and coordinated the MeloRisk project
(Euphresco). Participate/participated in 10 national and 3 international projects. She is the author/co-author of more 35
articles and 9 abstracts published in international scientific peer review journals; 11 technical communications; and >50
DNA sequences (GenBank). Participated in national/international scientific meetings [18 oral (presenter and/or co-author)
and 78 poster communications). Moreover, she has been or is involved in (co)supervision/tutorial of post-doctoral researchers
and PhD, MSc, BSc and undergraduate students. She act as reviewer of several manuscripts; was guest editor in Plants and Frontiers
in Plant Science; and participated in juries for academic examinations/selection boards. She has been involved in the organization
of events; and attended 26 scientific meetings (16 international/10 national). She has also collaborated in practical/theoretical
lectures and has organized/participated in science dissemination activities.
