Kardelen Ecevit completed her bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Anadolu University, Eskisehir, Turkey, in 2015, followed by her master's degree in Analytical Chemistry at the same institution in 2018. During her master's degree, she focused on developing high-performance biosensors, including electrospun composite nanofiber-coated quartz crystal microbalance sensors for formaldehyde detection, molecularly imprinted polymer-embedded electrospun nanofibers for the detection of various toxic substances. In addition, she studied enzyme immobilization on electrospun nanofiber to enhance enzyme storage and usage facilities. She also honed her skills in synthesizing and characterizing nanomaterials such as nanoparticles (molecularly imprinted nanoparticles) and nanocrystals (quantum dots). Additionally, she gained expertise in chromatography-based methods for determining the content of drugs released from various drug delivery systems. During her master's degree, she had the opportunity to study polymer chemistry and polymer in medicine at West Pomeranian University of Technology, Poland. Her master's thesis focused on producing electrospun nanofibers as a carrier for drug delivery systems and investigating their antibacterial activity. These studies resulted in 2 scientific papers published in international scientific journals, one oral presentation at national conferences, and three poster presentations at national and international conferences. In 2019, she was awarded an FCT doctoral fellowship and started a Ph.D. on natural-based compounds as a source of opportunities for medical devices for tissue engineering strategies, developing the majority of research work at ICVS/3B's Associate Laboratory, University of Minho. Her current research focuses on synthesizing biomaterials, including nanoparticles, inclusion complexes, and chemically grafted polymers using natural-based compounds, aiming to integrate these materials into medical devices to combat implant-associated infections. Simultaneously, she is engaged in research into the impregnation of natural compounds within polymeric matrices using supercritical fluid systems for therapeutic purposes. She is eager to improve her knowledge, experience, and skills to contribute to various scientific developments in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, which play a promising role today and in the future.
