Cátia Bartilotti

Cátia Bartilotti (CB) is currently a researcher at IPMA- Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera and MARE (Marine and Environmetal Sciences Centre, Portugal), studying marine biodiversity, using integrative taxonomy. Graduated in Marine Biology in the University of Lisbon in 2000, she concluded her MSc Degree in Marine and Coastal Studies in 2005, and obtained her PhD in Marine Sciences in 2010, both at the University of Algarve. Her main research interests are the study of marine invertebrates coupling the morphological and molecular taxonomy, the morphological description of decapod larval stages, and the phylogeny and phylogeography of selected taxa. More recently, she has been interested in non-indigenous species, since she is coordinating the scientific component of the evaluation of descriptor 2- Non indigenous species (NIS), in the scope of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, in Portugal mainland. CB participates in the JRC's MSFD D2 Expert Network NIS, is the focal point of COBAM Expert Group - NIS, is chair-invited member of the ICES Working Group on Integrated Morphological and Molecular Taxonomy, member of the ICES Working Group on Ballast and Other Ship Vectors and Working Group on Introductions and Transfers of Marine Organisms, and member of IPMA Scientific Council. She has contributed to several scientific research papers and reports. CB participated in several seminars and conferences. Also, she has contributed to the peer-revision of several scientific journals (e.g. Crustaceana, Cahiers de Biologie Marine, Continental Shelf Research, Scientific Reports, Diversity and Zootaxa). Moreover, she has been participating in activities aiming at transferring knowledge to general public related with NIS and with the study of the biodiversity of marine invertebrates.
