Samruddha Kokare is currently a MIT Portugal PhD fellow in Industrial Engineering at NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa where he is working on the development of environmentally friendly and cost-efficient additive manufacturing. He obtained a master's degree in Production Engineering and Management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden in 2021 and a bachelor's degree in Production Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, India in 2018. His areas of research interest encompass sustainable manufacturing, circular economy, environmental impact assessment of traditional manufacturing processes, and additive manufacturing. Before joining the doctoral program, Samruddha gained some industrial experience in sustainable manufacturing in Sweden for 2 years. He worked as a contracted research engineer at Mycronic AB where he conducted an environmental footprint study of a jet printing machine used in the production of printed circuit boards. He also worked as a consultant in industrial projects focused on circular economy with Circular Business and Engineering Systems (CirBES) AB. During his master's studies, Samruddha worked as an intern in a cutting tool production plant of Sandvik Cormorant AB in Sweden. He assisted in developing a sustainable and cost-efficient deburring solution for manufacturing drilling tools. Samruddha has also been a part of 3 international research projects namely: "Smart WAAM: Microstructural Engineering and Integrated Non-Destructive Testing-S: WAAM", "Resource-efficient Circular Product-Service Systems - ReCiPSS" and "Soft Intelligence Epidermal Communication Platform- SINTEC" funded by the European Commission. He has published 3 research articles based on the environmental assessment of industrial products and processes in reputed peer-reviewed journals like "Additive Manufacturing" (Elsevier), "Advances in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering" (Elsevier), and the "International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology" (Springer). He has also presented his research at international conferences held in Portugal, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Samruddha has been awarded several academic awards. During his bachelor's studies, he received a "Working Internship in Science and Engineering (WISE) 2017" scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to carry out a research internship at TU Clausthal in Germany. He was awarded the "Best Outgoing Student Award 2018" in Production Engineering and secured the first position in his bachelor's program at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, India. Additionally, he received a fully funded master's scholarship instituted by the KTH India foundation to pursue master's studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden during 2018-2020. In 2022, he won the award for the best oral presentation at the 12th International Conference on Industrial Technology and Management held in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
