Célia Maria Miguel (CM) has a PhD in Plant Biotechnology in 1999, from the University of Lisbon. From 2000 to 2006 she was Post-doc researcher at iBET, Assistant Researcher (2006-2013), Principal Investigator (2014-2016), and head of lab at iBET and ITQB NOVA (2008-2016). She then moved to the University of Lisbon (Faculty of Sciences) where she teaches in the Plant Biology Department as an associate professor (Bachelor, Master and PhD courses) since 2024 (assistant professor 2016-2024) and is the leader of the Forest Genomics and Molecular Genetics (ForGen, https://forgen.rd.ciencias.ulisboa.pt) lab integrating Post-doc researchers, PhD and Master students, part of the BioSystems and Integrative Sciences Institute (BioISI R&D unit). Her research interests are mainly focused on the genomics and molecular genetics of industrially relevant forest tree traits. Past and current research programs have addressed the molecular regulation of developmental processes such as conifer embryogenesis, cork and wood formation, and tree responses to environmental stresses (e.g.drought stress and pinewood nematode response in maritime pine) using genomics and reverse genetics approaches. She has also been involved in national and international tree genome sequencing initiatives, either as a co-promoter (cork oak) or participant (maritime pine), and in the generation of tools and pipelines for data analysis (e.g.Cork Oak Genome Portal). She has had several roles in ELIXIR, the European infrastructure for biological data, including co-leader of the ELIXIR plant community (2015-2022) and leader of the ELIXIR-PT (BioData) Plants working group (2015-2022), which resulted, among other outputs, in the release of the Minimal Information About a Plant Phenotyping Experiment (MIAPPE 1.1). She served as member of the ELIXIR Belgium Advisory Board (2019-2023), and has been part of the Tree Biology and Biotechnology working group of the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO) since 2016. CM has contributed 69 ISI articles (in Plant Journal, New Phytologist, Journal of Exp Botany, EMBO Journal, etc) among other publications including conference proceedings, book chapters or edited books, with a total of 1749 citations in Scopus (January 2024, h-index 21). CM has been the coordinator of 8 national projects and acted as Portuguese coordinator of 4 EC funded project (H2020, FP7-PEOPLE, EU FP7 and P-KBBE programs), in addition to participation as local PI, co-PI or team member in over 20 national projects. She has also been Grant reviewer for several science foundations including FCT, German DFG, Dutch NOW and National Science Centre (Poland), and external evaluator of European PhD degree awards. Over the years, she has been invited to the scientific/organization committees of international and national conferences (International Symposium PADIBA 2017, 4th and 5th International Conference of the IUFRO Unit 2.09.02 - 2018 and 2016, 8th Plant Genomics European Meeting 2009, Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences 2022, etc). CM has coordinated several post-graduation and university extension courses, has been member of the directive board of the International PhD Program Plants for Life, (co)supervised several PhD students (8 awarded degrees) and is currently the (co)supervisor of another 4 PhD and several MSc students working in the ForGen lab.
