Martim Santos, PhD, is a Specialist Psychologist in Clinical and Health Psychology and an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology and Education, University of Beira Interior. He was awarded a PhD grant by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) in 2019 and completed his PhD in Applied Psychology at the University of Minho in 2024. Martim has a hybrid skill set that integrates clinical practice with applied research across both clinical and vulnerable populations (e.g., caregivers, sexual minorities), to inform the design of evidence-based intervention programs. His main research lines focus on the triad patient-family-health outcomes, encompassing psychosocial (e.g., loneliness, family functioning), psychopathological (e.g., anxiety, depression, burnout), and psychoneuroimmunological (e.g., dopaminergic pathways, inflammation) processes. He aims to advance understanding of how these processes interact and influence disease progression, functional status, and overall quality of life, thereby contributing to the prevention of mental and physical illness and the promotion of health and well-being. In this line, he has published over 15 papers in peer-reviewed international journals indexed in Web of Science and/or Scopus, which have garnered more than 200 citations (Scopus h-index: 7). He has received three FCT-funded fellowships and holds relevant experience as a speaker, reviewer, organizer, and moderator of scientific events in his field of expertise. He also co-supervised a master’s thesis in Medicine and contributed as co-first author to the Portuguese validation of the TAPQoL, the first instrument available in Portugal to assess health-related quality of life in infants, toddlers, and preschool children within community and clinical settings. The key-words of his research line are: Quality of Life; Health Promotion; Psychological Well-being; Family Functioning; Emotional Regulation; Psychopatology; Burnout; Cognitive Impairment; Psycho-Oncology; Adverse Childhood Experiences; Vulnerable Groups; Chronic Illness; Psychological Assessment; Quantitative and Qualitative Methods.
