My name is Ângela Vilas Boas and I have a degree in Chemistry from the University of Minho and I hold a Master degree in Techniques of Characterization and Chemical Analysis also attributed by the University of Minho. I completed my BSc in 2013 and immediately continued my academic journey by enrolling in the MSc, where developed a method to characterize the antioxidant capacity of red wines, coordinated by Chemistry department of the University of Minho and Sogrape Vinhos, S.A., being awarded with a final grade of 18 out of 20. During the thesis years, I acquired several skills in the fields of chemistry, electrochemistry, analytical chemistry and voltammetric techniques. The results of the dissertation gave rise to two articles, entitled "Evaluation of total polyphenol content of winesby means of voltammetric techniques: Cyclic voltammetry vs differential pulse voltammetry" published in the journal Food Chemistry (5 years impact factor/2020; 7.516; Q1) and a co-authorship article published in the journal Electroanalysis ( 5 years impact factor/2020; 2.947; Q2). After finishing my master, I won a research grant at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) where I collaborated in the development of a method for the extraction, recovery, and purification of zinc and manganese from spent alkaline batteries; as well as for the recovery of other metals from high importance starting from residues of internal circuit boards. This work led to a co-authorship article published in the Journal of Cleaner Production (5 years impact factor/2020: 9.444; Q1). In FEUP I was also involved in the study of the iron deficiency in alkaline soils, that also led to a co-authorship article published in the Journal of AMB Express (5 years impact factor/2020: 3.427; Q2). Later on, from July 2018 to August 2019, I received a research fellowship under the scope of the Nature4Health and start working at I3Bs Research Group as a researcher, where I became familiarized with biomaterials and the work developed had the ambition to create innovative and advanced solutions based on the efficient use of natural resources as an intelligent and sustainable approach. With this project, I acquired knowledge and experience in the areas of polymer processing and physicochemical characterization of biomaterials and this work led to a co-authorship article submitted in the (5 years impact factor/2020: 8.678; Q1). Since September 2019 I won a PhD grant, at the same institution to continue my work in biomaterials. I concluded the first 2 years of the grant (until final of October 2021) in order to pursuit other fields.
