Margarida Correia-Neves is presently a Full Professor in Immunology and Microbiology at the School of Medicine, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal; Researcher at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) from the same university; and Associate Researcher at Karolinska Institute (KI), Stockholm, Sweden. Present research activities mainly focus on: 1) Tuberculosis : immune response and methods to improve the diagnosis and reduce transmission; 2) One Health concept on tuberculosis (human and animal interaction). Research activities are performed mainly at the ICVS and KI with long-term collaborations with colleagues in Mozambique. Published 140 peer-reviewed papers in international journals (Correia-Neves, M; h-index=42; Web of Science ResearcherID- C-9122-2009; ORCID - 0000-0002-2202-5431). She has been the coordinator and a member of several research projects funded by national and international institutions (European Union-F7; European Union- Life Sciences, European Economic Area - EEA - Grants, European Society of Laboratory Animal Veterinarians, European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology - FCT, Swedish Research Council, 2CA-Braga). Margarida Correia-Neves supervised/co-supervised 17 Ph.D. students and 17 Master students (thesis completed); is presently supervising/co-supervising 4 Ph.D. students. Has been a member of the directive board of the Ph.D. program in Health Sciences and the Ph.D. program in Medicine both at the School of Medicine, University of Minho, the Inter-university Ph.D. Program in Aging and Chronic Diseases (School of Medicine at the University of Minho, Medical School at the Nova University in Lisbon, and Faculty of Medicine from Coimbra University). Margarida Correia-Neves launched as the director (2020 and 2021) the Doctoral College at the University of Minho. With respect to education, Margarida Correia-Neves graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon in 1993. In the context of the Gulbenkian Ph.D. program in Biology and Medicine moved to Strasbourg in 1994 to perform her Ph.D. at IGBMC. The Ph.D. was accomplished under the supervision of Diane Mathis and Christophe Benoist (presently at Harvard Medical School) on particular aspects of T cell differentiation within the thymus. Back in Portugal in 2001 performed her post-doc on the immune response to mycobacterial infections under the coordination of Rui Appelberg at the IBMC, Porto. In 2014-2016 she performed the Master in Public Health and Epidemiology at the KI.
