Jorge Fernandes da Silva João

I completed the Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from the Universidade de Lisboa in 2016 and the Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2018. Throughout my academic path, I did an internship in the area of Molecular Microbiology and Infection at Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes and collaborated with the company TechnoPhage, SA during my Master’s thesis and as research assistant in a project together with Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB). Currently, I am finishing the PhD Degree in Biotechnology and Biosciences at IST, developing my research project focused on biomanufacturing of non-viral protein nanocages at iBB. This work aims to contribute to the deepening of knowledge in the area of the process development for these protein-based nanoparticles from the upstream to the downstream steps including characterization technologies, with the ultimate objective of transforming the protein nanocages into valuable products for biomedical and biotechnological applications. Precisely, my main research interests are in the fields of Biomolecular and Bioprocess Engineering, with some association with the Health Sciences. I published 3 scientific articles as first author and co-author, and I also had the opportunity to share my research work in 7 oral presentations and 12 poster presentations at national and international conferences and scientific events. I participated in about 22 courses and training actions related to the development and improvement of both soft and technical skills related to teaching and scientific writing methodologies, bioimaging, cell culture and genetics, or computer programming.
