José Costa is a Ph.D. candidate in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto
(FEUP). He holds a Licenciatura (5 years graduation) and a master's in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at FEUP. He
also has an Advanced Studies degree in Services Management from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP).
With a focus on metal additive manufacturing processes, mostly related to laser powder bed fusion and material extrusion systems,
his research objective is currently linked to Design for AM and overlaps it with developing advanced materials and exploring
innovative methodologies. He is becoming increasingly curious about the Large Language Models (LLM) used for mechanics and
materials modeling strategy that connects knowledge across scales, disciplines, and modalities, simulating materials' behavior
under diverse conditions, significantly accelerating the research process by reducing the need for physical experiments. José
brings over 12 years of industry experience, notably in the automotive sector, encompassing diverse roles in research, development,
innovation, advanced manufacturing, and project management. His transition to academia saw him assume the position of an Invited
Assistant and Research Fellow at FEUP, engaging in projects associated with metal AM. His transition from the automotive industry
to academia showcases his adaptability and expertise, and he is committed to pushing the boundaries in metallurgical and materials
engineering and AM while remaining grounded in industrial application. In his prior role as a technical and operations manager
in innovation, José led the establishment of a European innovation laboratory. José's ability to cultivate high-performing
teams in varied and multicultural settings is noticeable, bolstered by his resilience, analytical acumen, and forward-thinking
mindset. His proficiency enables him to strategically steer engineering, technical, operations, and innovation departments
across diverse domains such as advanced manufacturing, research and development, project management, and procurement. His
strengths lie in aligning short-, medium-, and long-term objectives with organizational strategies, demonstrating astute leadership
in global matrix organizations, proficiently managing cross-functional teams, and fostering a culture of excellence amidst
multicultural environments, with a keen eye on budgetary considerations.
