André Rafael Dias Martins is Auxiliary Researcher from Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (CERIS) at the Dep. of Civil Eng. of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon (UL), Portugal. He completed a 5-year Integrated Master degree in Civil Eng. at University of Coimbra (UC) in September 2009. In July 2012 he completed a 1-year Advanced Master degree in Steel and Composite Construction, also at UC. Since 2013, he has been conducting research at the Dep. of Civil Eng. of IST, where he concluded his PhD degree under the supervision of Prof. Dinar Camotim in March 2018 with the highest classification (Approved with Distinction and Honour), by unanimity. After completing his PhD degree, he has been conducting research at the Deps. of Civil and Mechanical Eng. of IST. A. Publications The research conducted led to the publication of (i) 41 international journal papers (+1 accepted), (ii) 52 conference proceeding papers, (iii) author/co-author of 6 keynote lectures (ASCCS 2024, EUROSTEEL 2021, EMI 2017, CIMS 2016, MBMST 2016 and International Seminar on Recent Advances in Steel and Composite Structures), (iv) 4 conference abstracts and (v) 3 book chapters in the field of Thin-Walled Steel (TWS) Structures, with emphasis to: I. Non-linear behaviour, strength and design of cold-formed steel (CFS) members involving modal interaction phenomena II. Generalised Beam Theory (GBT) III. Non-linear behaviour of stainless steel members under elevated temperatures IV. Several buckling phenomena inherent to TWS members (e.g., cylindrical panels, polygonal tubes, wrinkling of stretched membranes) V. Experimental investigations on (V.1) CFS members and (V.2) FRP connections VI. Reliability-based code calibration for FRP design rules B. Main activities B.1 Research projects He has been involved in 6 competitively funded research projects dealing with (i) fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) composite members and connections (RELIABLE-FRP), (ii) carbon and stainless steel members (StaSteFi, UltimatePanel, HOLLOSSTAB, GBT), and (iii) and timber-concrete composite beams (LOGCORK). B.2 Oral presentations He has attended and presented papers at 20 international and 5 national/Iberic conferences. B.3 Supervision He is (i) currently supervising 1 PhD student, (ii) currently supervising 2 MSc students, (iii) supervised 4 MSc and 3 undergraduate students, (iv) co-supervised 1 (2-years) Master student and (v) 1 research fellow. B.4 Jury of academic degree He was the main arguer of (i) 4 PhD students and (ii) 4 Master students (2-years Master’s Degree) at COPPE/UFRJ (Brazil – 5 students) and FECFAU/ UNICAMP (Brazil – 1 student). B.5 Teaching Experience He was teaching assistant of the curricular unit “Theory of Structures II” (year 4, 2nd semester of Bologna Master’s Degree) at FCTUC. He also collaborated in several postgraduate curricular units (“Numerical Modelling of Cold-formed Steel Members under Fire”, “Especial Topics in Civil Engineering”, “Structures Subjected to High Temperatures”) at COPPE/UFRJ. B.6 Event organisation He was organising committee member of 2 international conferences held in Lisbon (ICTWS 2018 and ICASS 2015). B.7 Peer review He has reviewed (i) papers from 29 international journals, which involved 122 reviews, and (ii) 15 International Research Project Proposals from the (ii1) Czech Science Foundation (GACR) and (ii2) Poland National Science Centre (NCN). B.8 Editorial activities in scientific journals Editorial board member of the international journal (i) "Buildings" and (ii) "Advances in Civil Engineering". C. Awards/distinctions He has received 8 awards/distinctions since started his PhD degree (6 of them international). D. Other relevant information D.1. The H-index: 22 in Scopus, 20 in Web of Science and 24 in Google Scholar. D.2. International partnership: very active collaboration between researchers from Hong Kong, Brazil, China, UK and France.
