Dr. Sandra Pina is a Portuguese Assistant Researcher at the 3B’s Research Group on Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics (member of the ICVS/3B´s Associate Laboratory), University of Minho. She successfully completed a European PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, at the University of Aveiro, with the collaboration of the Centre for Biomechanics & Orthopaedics, University of Bath, UK, and the Institute of Mineralogie, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 2009. Her research has been focusing on the field of bioresorbable bioceramics for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with main applications in bone and osteochondral defects and diseases (http://www.3bs.uminho.pt/users/sandrapina). In addition, she has been developing different ion-doped materials with great potential for being used in MRI (cell tracking and biodistribution studies) and immunomodulation. Sandra Pina has been participating in the preparation/implementation/co-coordination of national and international projects, and she is team member of several EU and PT funded projects for bone and osteochondral tissue engineering and regeneration. She has produced so far 34 Scopus indexed publications in scientific journals with referee, 2 books, 18 book chapters in books with international circulation and science dissemination, 3 conference proceedings, and presented more than 50 communications in major conferences in the field. Her work has been cited around 1483 times in ISI WOS (2037 in Google Scholar; 1620 in Scopus) and has h-index of 20. She has also 2 granted patents (WO and PT), related with ionic-doped bioceramics. She presented more than 50 communications in major conferences in the field. She has also experience in the supervision of Diploma, Master, and PhD students. She has been serving referee services of international journals and of research projects/grants for Funding Agencies (e.g. NWO, Russian Federation, and European Commission), and she is a member of the Editorial Board of Materials.
