Pedro Guimarães (PG) is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra and a researcher at the Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT). He completed his Msc in Biomedical Engineering in 2011 at the University of Coimbra, Portugal; and was granted a European Marie Curie PhD fellowship , completing his PhD in Information Engineering in 2017 at the University of Padova, Italy, with a secondment at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. Between 2018 and 2020, PG held a postdoctoral position at the Chair for clinical bioinformatics, at Saarland University, Germany. PG background is in biomedical engineering, medical imaging, and artificial intelligence. His research activities focus on the development and application of state-of-the-art machine learning approaches in search for novel biomarkers of disease. Having already made significant contributions to the field, PG is currently focused on the identification of embedded information on the central nervous system through ocular fundus imaging. Pedro has published 30 peer-reviewed publications, one book chapter, 10 conference papers, and over 25 international conference proceedings (h-index 12, 567 citations), along with multiple participations in important and prestigious international scientific meetings with oral and poster presentations. Pedro has also contributed to knowledge dissemination through invited lectures, thesis supervision, outreach initiatives, and the organization of meetings.
