Rogério Manuel dos Santos Simões has graduated in Chemical Engineering by the University of Coimbra (1984), has got a specialization course in Paper Engineering by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Escola Superior d¿Enginyeries Industrial de Terrassa (1987), and the PhD degree in Paper Engineering by the University of Beira Interior (UBI), in 1997. Since 2001, he is Associate Professor at the Chemistry Department of UBI (previously Assistant and Assistant Professor), developing Teaching and Research activities. Rogério has been teaching several curricular units at graduate and MSc levels in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry and Paper Engineering, in the areas of chemical reaction engineering, transport phenomena and project, besides the pulp and papermaking science and technology. In the area of research, he deepens and applies the know-how of chemical reaction engineering and transfer phenomena in pulping and bleaching processes, including enzymatic processes, as well as on industrial wastewater treatment. Regarding the cellulosic materials, his main research interests are the relationships between the morphological and physicochemical characteristics of the wood fibers (including nanofibrillated cellulose), the processing conditions and the corresponding properties of the final products (paper, cellulosic films, cellulosic filaments, etc). He is coordinator of the Fibrous Materials- Chemistry group at the FibEnTech Research Unit. Rogério Simões has supervised/co-supervised of 8 PhD students and several master students in pulping processes, Industrial Chemistry and Biotechnology. Rogério Simões is author/co-author of 78 papers in international peer reviewed journals, with a h-index of 21.
