Paula Agostinho (PA) is graduated in Biology and got a PhD degree in Cell Biology in 1998 from Coimbra University (UC), Faculty of Science and Technology, Portugal. Currently, she is Principal Investigator (with tenure) at the Faculty of Medicine at UC (FMUC), and is Principal Investigator at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), which integrates the Center for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB), an Associated Laboratory (top 100% score) at UC. PA has participated in the research team of 15 projects funded by either FCT (Portuguese agency) or other international agencies, being PI or Co-PI of three of these projects. Her research is mainly focused on studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms related to neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer´s, Parkinson´s, and Prion´s diseases, and also stress-related disorders, with a particular focus in aspects related with astrocyte-neuron communication operated by the purinergic system. P.Agostinho (or PM Agostinho) published 87 papers in peer-reviewed journals, the majority in international quartile 1 (Q1) journals, and have also more than 12 published abstracts in journals. The scientific impact of her research is reflected in the H index (41) and high number of citations (> 4900), being senior/corresponding author of 20 papers, and has a global "Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI)" of 1.67 values, according to WoScc Web of Science, which means her publications are 1.67 times more cited than the world average. The most representative areas of its publications are: i) "Neurosciences" (62 publications) where the CNCI is 1.62 values, and ii) Pharmacology & Pharmacy (11 publications) with a CNCI value of 2.61. It has a publication in the Top 1% (PNAS 2015) of the most cited and 25 publications in the Top10% of the most cited, in the aforementioned areas, as well as a publication in (Science 2021), with a CNCI value of 99.89, therefore Top 1% in the Multidisciplinary Sciences area. She supervised several PhD (4 concluded, 2 ongoing) and Master (15 concluded) students, research fellows, UC 1st cycle, and ERASMUS students, having also be enrolled in Master and PhD programs at UC as lecturer or member of organizing committee, thesis evaluation. Furthermore, she teaches (1st cycle) integrated masters in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering (UC). PA participated in the organization of XV Portuguese Neuroscience Meeting (2001) and of V Symposium of Portuguese Glial Network (2021), and was invited speaker and/or co-authored more than 66 oral and 220 poster communications in (inter)national scientific meetings. P. Agostinho was Guest Editor of a special issue of Frontiers of Neuroscience "Adenosinergic System and Central Nervous System Disorders (2021) and of Journal of Alzheimer´s disease, also act as a reviewer of several journals( e.g. FASEB J, Eur J. Neurosci, Aging Cell) and has integrated the evaluation board of funding agencies of the Czech Republic, Polony and Italy. In addition, she participated in some science outreach projects and activities, namely "Ciencia Viva during Summer Holidays" and "Brain Awareness Week", and was invited to participate in events in media and broad end-users (TV, radio, newspapers).
