Alexandra P. Marques has a PhD on Materials Science and Technology - Biomaterials from the University of Minho, Portugal and in cooperation with the University of Liverpool, UK, and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Porto, Portugal. In 2020, obtained her habilitation in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells, with a specialization in Stem cells, in the University of Minho. She is a Founder and Principal Investigator of the 3Bs Research Group at the University of Minho in Portugal, a research unit of the I3Bs - Research Institute on Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics of which she is vice-president. She is also Member of the Governing Board of the PT Government Associate Laboratory ICVS/3B´s. Alexandra P. Marques is member of several International Scientific Organizations. She has been actively participating in the activities of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), of which she is member of the Executive Committee and of the Council, of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and of the Portuguese Society for Stem Cells and Cellular Therapy (SPCE-TC, founder member and coordinator of the Section Cell Therapies and Tissue Engineering -2011/2012). She was part of the organizing committee of the 2008 TERMIS-EU meeting held in Porto, and was member of the scientific committee and of the International Advisory Board of different TERMIS-EU and TERMIS World meetings, as well as of the European Society for Biomaterials. . She was Chair of the 5th International Meeting of the SPCE-TC (2010), Gene2Skin and TERMSTEM International Conferences (2016, 2018) and Gene2Skin Winter (2017) and Summer Schools (2018). She was also (Co)-Chair of different symposia at TERMIS-EU and TERMIS-AP Meetings, TERMIS World Congresses, and of the ESAO and IV Biennial Congress of the IFAO. She was invited as lecturer of several National and International Conferences, Courses and Workshops and of different National Integrated Master and Doctoral Programmes. She has been supervising final year projects of under-graduated students, Master projects (6 concluded), PhDs (8 concluded, 11 ongoing - 4 witting thesis) and 13 Post-Doctoral fellows. She has also supervised visiting PhD students resulting from different International Collaborations and further manages a research team of 1 MSc holder and 6 Post-doctoral Fellows dedicated to the activities of projects she coordinates. Alexandra P. Marques edited the Skin tissue models book, Elsevier (2017) and of the Handbook Natural-based Polymers for Biomedical Applications, Woodhead Pub (2008). She is author of 232 publications: 108 peer-reviewed, 22 book chapters, 111 ISI indexed conference abstracts and proceedings and more than 280 communications in major conferences of the field. In addition, she is co-inventor of 21 patents (10 families). She has an h-factor of 38, was cited more than 4500 times, 4339 without self-citations (March 2021, ISI Web of Knowledge).
