Assoc. Prof. Dr. F. Serkan Öngel completed his doctoral studies in Urban Planning at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He earned his bachelor's degree in Statistics and his master's degree in Communication Sciences. He has been actively involved in leading labor confederations and unions' research and collective bargaining departments for many years, providing consultancy services to these organizations. He conducted research within the Turkish Chamber of Architects and Engineers Union and served as a columnist for Birgün Newspaper. Currently, he is a faculty member at Gaziantep University. Öngel's research interests span various fields including urbanization, migration, industrialization, class studies, labor organization, occupational health and safety, and economic geography. Holding the title of Associate Professor in Social Policy, he has recently focused on topics such as recycling sector, digitalization, employment, gender equality, refugee integration, and the role of cooperatives. In this capacity, he worked with institutions such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the Fear Wear Foundation. Additionally, he serves as a collaborative researcher at CiTUA (Regional, Urban and Architectural Innovation Center), a multidisciplinary R&D unit in Lisbon University. Öngel also authored a poetry book titled "The Wind on My Lips" in Turkish.
