Prof. Luciana das Neves is a Visiting Professor in the fields of Coastal and Offshore Engineering at University of Porto in Portugal, and a senior coastal and offshore engineer and researcher at IMDC in Belgium. She is an expert in the planning and designing of climate resilient coastal infrastructure. At IMDC, Prof. das Neves gained experienced while working in 30+ countries and 4 continents through 50+ small (<250kEUR) to large (>2MEUR) -scale specialised consultancy and engineering projects regarding strategic investment in coastal and port infrastructure developments, as well as urban resilience and blue energy, worth over 4 billion EUR. She had been involved in mega engineering projects like Wheatstone LNG in Australia and the Tuas Terminal phase 2 in Singapore. More recently, she acted as expert in a technical assistance to the European Investment Bank on specific coastal engineering matters, concerning climate resilience strategic investments worth over 700 million EUR. She is currently working in developing the climate adaptation and resilience plans to 2100 for the Belgian coast. She is, in addition, working in the pre-feasibility, tender design and environmental studies for a multifunctional energy island in the Belgian North Sea, as well as in the preparation of the technical specifications for an EU EPCI tender. In addition, Luciana gained experience in a series of climate change adaptation studies developed for the World Bank in West African countries. She is the chairperson of the PIANC MarCom WG187 on underwater pipelines and cable in navigable areas and previously served as President of the PIANC Young-Professionals in Portugal and as member of the working group on Design of small to mid-scale marine LNG terminals including bunkering. Prof. das Neves regularly acts as an expert reviewer for a number of international journals and research evaluation panels. She is Subject Editor of Sustainable Oceans of Sustainability (MDPI). Over her career she has helped secure over 1.6 million EUR research income as Principal Investigator, published over 80 research papers including 17 peer-reviewed journal papers. With over 235 citations, her h-index is 10. At UPorto, she is member of the 'Marine Energy' Research Group of CIIMAR, where she is responsible for the 'Nature-based solutions for coastal climate change risks and adaptation' related research topics. CIIMAR is Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, which is the research and advanced training institution for marine environment related topics within UPorto. Having worked in academia and consultancy with partners from the private sector, to financial institutions and (sub-)national governments, Luciana has demonstrated an increased capacity to work in a number of different sectors in a wide spectrum of international contexts.
