Adriana Rego has a BSc in Biology (2015) and a MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology (2017) from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP). In 2019 Adriana secured a competitive scholarship from FCT to develop her PhD targeting the “Distribution and Diversity of bacterial biosynthetic genes across multiple ecosystems”, in a collaborative project with CIIMAR (supervised by Dr. Catarina Magalhães and Dr. Pedro Leão) and Max Planck institute for Marine Microbiology (supervised by Dr. Antonio Fernandez-Guerra). Across the 4- year PhD program, Adriana assessed the biosynthetic potential of Earth microbiomes, through analysis of conserved domains of biosynthetic genes, and retrieval of complete metagenome-assembled genomes from metagenomic datasets. Adriana was a visiting PhD student at Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and at the University of Waikato in New Zealand (within a project funded by the Portuguese polar program). Currently, Adriana is a bioinformatics technician at Cyanobacterial Natural Products team in CIIMAR.
